NEW ULTRA HIGH SPEED IN-TAPE POST-SEAL INSPECTION SYSTEM WITH 2-D VISION

(12 July 2000, San Jose, CA - Booth 10428) American Tech Manufacturing (ATM) Inc. is introducing a new ultra high-speed in-tape post-seal inspection taping system.
The ATV-2000 inspects most two and four-sided gull-wing packages and performs 2-D lead, mark and pin 1 at speeds up to 20,000 UPH. The system also checks for cover-tape seal integrity. Using multiple-axis light source, both laser and ink marks can be inspected with a high-amount of accuracy and repeatability while minimizing the possibility of carrier pocket reflections. Fiber optic detectors trigger the illumination based on carrier tape sprocket holes. All vision rejects can be automatically marked with a sticker or manually reviewed by the operator depending upon how the system is set-up.
Change over to a same device but different mark takes a few minutes; change over to different carrier tape widths takes less than 20 minutes.
The ATV-2000 incorporates I-Cite NxT vision software that runs on Windows NT. The vision software has four different user-programmable security access levels, and inspects for Lead pitch, Lead width, Span, Slant and Colinearity. Inspection time is .25-.75 ms per lead. Symbols (marks) are inspected for low-contrast, print defects, illegible or incorrect marks (system can be taught for multiple marks within a given lot) and Pin 1 orientation is checked for a dimple, notch, chamfered edge or other mark. Final production reports are user-configurable.
Machine control is achieved via use of PLC controls, all buttons used for start, stop, forward, reverse, jog and dispense are illuminated and a fully-configurable counter mode displays unit count during processing.
